What I have been doing: AC Training for Stress "Management" and Weeklong Protocol Write-up

I noticed that it has been some time since I posted to my blog. I guess I'm not much of a blogger. I don't know if anyone is interested in what ACT things I am up to, but if you are, here goes.

Lately I have been working on a Values-Based Stress "Management" program for my community. Literally anyone who identifies him or her self as "stressed" is a candidate for the classes. I have sort of recreated the rolling admission with unlimited follow-up structure of the week-long, ACT IOP, but paired it down to only AC Training. I will do one Introductory class with 5 follow-up classes. I have piloted all of the classes and I am ready to start them in two weeks. In general the Introductory class will be on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and the Follow-ups will be Wednesday or Thursday at 6:30 p.m. I have some ACT training dates I must travel for this fall and winter, so I will have to schedule around those. My webpage, www.drkevinpolk.com, is for now devoted to promoting the Valued-Based Stress "Management" package.

I have also been writing up the 5-day, intensive ACT protocol that Jerold and I (with help from others) developed. I am writing it up as dialogue. So you can read what Jerold and I say and what a "typical" client might say or ask during each session. We have are arranging to video us doing all 12 sessions of the protocol. We will be using family and friends as "clients," but they have all been well coached in how to act like typical ACT clients during the sessions. Hopefully the whole protocol (12 sessions) will fit on one DVD. Then we will publish the protocol write-up and the DVD as a set.

BTW: Part of my reason for writing this blog entry is to help me keep on track with the writing and the video.

I will do the same (write-up and DVD) with the Stress "Management" series.

Signing Off,

Kevin
