Assessment of Identities in Treatment: Incorporating the ADDRESSING Framework

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Participants will learn about the ADDRESSING framework (Hays, 2001) and will be shown a model of how they can use the ADDRESSING framework during the intake process. Participants will be given time to role play, ask questions, and discuss how identities interact with treatment planning and interventions.

Building the Foundation of Your ACT-Informed Exposure Practice

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP: More than a decade of empirical studies have shown ACT-informed exposure to be as effective as traditional exposure—and to be more consistent with emerging data on how exposure works (Landy et al., 2015). Because of its focus on function over form and psychological flexibility over symptom reduction, ACT-informed exposure can be tricky for clinicians new to ACT to learn and implement.

Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to Guide Exposure Therapy: The Basics

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Exposure therapy is the gold standard intervention for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (OCRDs). Since the early success of exposure, many theories have been created to understand and explain its mechanism. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has emerged as a useful framework to understand how to use exposure effectively including how to overcome barriers to engagement with exposure. Within the past 10 years, research has demonstrated the effectiveness of exposure therapy within the context of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Bluett et al., 2014).

ACT-Informed Exposure for Therapists Who Don’t Use Exposure

About the Workshop: Exposure therapy is the gold standard intervention for anxiety. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has emerged as a useful framework to understand how to use exposure effectively, and research has demonstrated the effectiveness of exposure therapy within the context of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Bluett et al., 2014). For therapists without training, however, exposure therapy of any model can be intimidating.  Consequently, many therapists are reluctant to use exposure (Farrell et al., 2016; Scherr, Herbert, & Foreman, 2015).
