Body-Image Acceptance and Action Questionnaire: Its deleterious influence on binge eating and psychometric validation
Publication

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to explore the psychometric properties of BI-AAQ (Body-Image Acceptance and Action Questionnaire) and the body image psychological flexibility role as a mediator in a pervasive path towards binge eating in Brazilian samples. Developing an Acceptance-Based Behavioral Treatment for Binge Eating Disorder: Rationale and Challenges
Publication

Binge eating disorder (BED), characterized by recurrent eating episodes in which individuals eat an objectively large amount of food within a short time period accompanied by a sense of loss of control, is the most common eating disorder. While existing treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), produce remission in a large percentage of individuals with BED, room for improvement in outcomes remains.

RFT for Clinical Practice: Three Core Strategies in Understanding and Treating Human Suffering
Publication

This chapter presents the strategies that are based on relational frame theory (RFT) and relates specifically to the complex human abilities of, following instructions or rules, and interacting with our own behavior. Psychological flexibility mediates change in intuitive eating regulation in acceptance and commitment therapy interventions
Publication

Despite the promising results related to intuitive eating, few studies have attempted to explain the processes encouraging this adaptive eating behaviour. The focus of the present study was on exploring mechanisms of change in intuitive eating and weight in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) interventions. Mediation provides important information regarding the treatment processes and theoretical models related to specific treatment approaches.

This study assessed the relationship between acceptance-based constructs and quality of life (QOL) among patients with an eating disorder, as well as whether an acceptance-based treatment group could improve QOL. Patients (n = 105) at a residential treatment center received treatment as usual (TAU) or TAU plus twice-weekly acceptance and commitment therapy groups (TAU+ACT), and completed assessments at admission and discharge.

Treating functional non-epileptic attacks – Should we consider acceptance and commitment therapy?
Publication

Patients who experience functional non-epileptic attacks (FNEA) are frequently seen in Neurology clinics. Diagnosis alone can result in cessation of attacks for some patients, but many patients require further treatment. There is evidence that certain psychological therapies, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic interpersonal therapy (PIT) can be beneficial.
