Do Mindfulness-Based Interventions Increase Empathy and Compassion in Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review
Objectives
Empathy and compassion are important components of prosocial behaviour which can lead to greater peer acceptance and positive relationships in children and adolescents. As mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been shown to be effective in increasing empathy and compassion among adults, we aimed to systematically review the current literature to see if mindfulness-based interventions increased empathy and compassion in children and adolescents.

Background: Efforts to control childhood asthma remains suboptimal. In the Asia-Pacific region, over half of the Asian children with asthma require emergency care services due to asthma exacerbations per year. Childhood asthma also imposes a heavy psychological burden on parents, which can adversely affect the child's health. Effective psychological interventions for these parents, however, are still lacking.
Spanish validation of the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for children and adolescents (ERQ-CA): Introducing the ERQ-SpA.
Research on emotion regulation is now extensive and shows the benefits of the adaptive management of emotions for social functioning and psychological wellbeing. Our purpose was to test the psychometric properties of the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents with a sample of nonclinical Spanish adolescents. A total of 462 secondary education students (223 girls, mean age = 13.89 years, SD = 1.38) participated.
