The illness of being human

Dear All,

I am psychologist by trade and a filmmaker at heart.

While working with patients and for my own experience, I have realised that one of the biggest part of the problem with mental health issues is the stigma attached to it.

We feel ashamed for experiencing the emotions we experience, thinking the thoughts we think and acting in the only way we are able to act in our own circumstances.

So to the original pain, whatever that is; we add the pain of judging and criticising ourselves for being broken or damaged or just not good enough for this world.

So I decided to produce this short film to raise the issue, invite people to talk, to connect and maybe to start working together for a better world.

A world where the needs of the people, not the needs of the market have priority. Where emotional health is a value to be nourished daily, not to be ignored till it explodes and is then pathologised.

As the reality is that we are all humans experiencing the same human emotions.

We all suffer and it is only through openness, compassion and connection that we can overcome our difficulties.

A word of warning: if you believe mental health issues are due to a chemical imbalance in the brain only, and you are part of the 'Take your pills and get back to work' movement; then this film might not be your cup of tea.

If on the other side you are ready for society and people to take responsibility forimproving everybody's mental welbeing, then the film may resonate with you.

If this is the case, please feel free to pass it on to your network and to ask your contacts to pass it on to their network, if it resonates with them.

All the best

Alice
