Course Description:

Day 1: Introduction to Acceptance Commitment Therapy Theory and Processes (4.5 hours)

Day 2: Working with Different Diagnostic Presentations through the ACT Core Processes (4.5 hours)

 

This course provides an overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), discusses its underlying theory, six core processes, and their application for a range of presentations, such as anxiety disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This course is appropriate for clinicians of all levels who provide mental health services to adolescents and adults. Participants will learn the six core processes of ACT: acceptance, defusion, mindfulness, self as context, values, and committed action. Experiential exercises will be used for participants to experience core processes from the inside out. Day 1 will focus on the core theory, model and processes of ACT, while Day 2 will apply ACT to anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD. Participants will learn how each core process of ACT and ACT-based exposure can help individuals with anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD build willingness and lead a values-based life.

 

This intensive course:

-Teaches the six core processes of ACT: acceptance, defusion, mindfulness, self-as-context, values, and committed action.

-Presents the theory and model of ACT, applications of ACT to diverse diagnoses, populations, and settings.

-Includes experiential exercises, case examples, multimedia for applied, clinical learning.

-Provides an overview for how to use ACT for clients with anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD

-Prepares participants to integrate ACT into exposure therapy, through values based exposure and incorporate of each core process
