This workshop will teach you how to use ACT with children and adolescents with anxiety disorders. These include Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety/Phobia, Panic Disorder, Separation Anxiety, OCD, Trichotillomania and Excoriation/Dermatillomania.
The ACT Kidflex, a developmentally appropriate adaptation of the ACT Hexaflex for use with children and adolescents, will be taught.
Exposure and Response Prevention, Habit Reversal Therapy, and Compassion-based approaches, and how to use these with ACT will also be included.
You will learn how to provide home tasks for children, adolescents, and their parents/caregivers, along with recommendations for parents/caregivers, teachers and schools.
We will go through cases in greater detail than in the beginners’ workshop.

– Outline how to develop an ACT case conceptualization and create goals for counselling.
– Describe how to develop ACT-based in vivo and imaginal exposure home tasks together with children and adolescents.
– Demonstrate how to use ACT experiential exercises with children and adolescents.
– Develop new experiential exercises and metaphors.
– Outline how to use Compassion-based approaches together with ACT.
– Describe how to use Habit Reversal Therapy together with ACT.
– Explain how to use Exposure and Response Prevention together with ACT.
– Discuss how to use ACT-based in vivo and imaginal exposure exercises in sessions.
– Describe how to engage parents/caregivers, provide feedback and simple home tasks to reinforce ACT.
– Outline how to provide recommendations to teachers and schools.
