ACT/CBS Experience: Using Act in Adult Mental Health settings within the NHS, running groups, offering training, supervision and individual therapy.
Additional Information: I have been interested in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy since coming across it while studying at Bangor University as an MSc student back in 2001. Since that time I have developed my understanding of the model from attending workshops and seminars, attending the world conference in London and Seville. Providing teaching on the Clinical Psychology courses in the North West and teaching other psychologist / counselling and psychotherapy colleagues. As well as providing consultation to team colleagues in a community mental health setting using an Act consistent philosophy and working with clients both individually and in groups. I previously worked in private practice doing individual therapy sessions using Act. I am shortly planning to offer a community course for clients combining Act with Yoga. In 2016 I set up The Emotional Learning Foundation a social enterprise which aims to collaborate with Arts organisations to deliver a range of innovative and rich learning experiences to help children to develop understanding of their own thoughts, feelings and internal experiences using an Act consistent philosophy.
Since 2019 I’ve been using Act philosophy in nature based interventions with adults and in 2021 started work in an NHS (type) organisation in the Isle of Man setting up a health liaison psychology service for physical health problems. I have provided act training to a range of health and social care professionals and staff as well as offering live well programmes with an act consultant philosophy.
