ACT/CBS Background and Training: My initial training was in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which later transitioned to Behavioral Therapy, during which I completed my clinical training. During my Ph.D., I also had the opportunity to visit Dr. William Follette at the University of Nevada, Reno, where I received training in Functional Analytic Psychotherapy. Currently, my primary perspective in psychotherapy is grounded in Clinical Behavior Analysis, which includes applied behavior analysis (ABA) and therapies from contextual behavioral sciences in general. In this approach, I focus in functionally analyzing verbal interactions within therapy sessions and actively promoting changes outside of therapy by integrating research from experimental and descriptive approaches within behavior analysis. I also have a lot of fun reading about conceptual issues in our field. My research specialization is in process-to-outcome research, employing a microanalytical strategy (e.g., moment-by-moment analysis) to study the mechanisms of clinical change. Philosophically, my background is influenced by radical behaviorism, and later by interbehaviorism and contextual functionalism.
