Commentary on the recent article by Hayes and Fryling about the nature of Functional and Descriptive Contextualism is provided from an interpretive perspective informed by a sociology of science approach. The prior literature is interpreted in light of the stated goals of Contextual Behavioral Science, the prospect of descriptive contextualism serving to enhance functional contextualism is considered, and recommendations for broadening the research methods to increase pragmatic understanding of the behavior of CBS practitioners are offered.
