Abstract

Therapist self-disclosure can be an important feature of the acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) approach to supporting the recovery of people with psychosis. We will present an overview of therapist self-disclosure in psychotherapy, including the research literature. We will then outline the ways that therapist self-disclosure is offered in ACT for psychosis, the purposes this serves and examples of these interactions from individual and group ACT. We will present considerations in using therapist self-disclosure in ACT for psychosis.
