Abstract

Objective: Exploring the effect of acceptance and commitment therapy with physical education curriculum as a carrier on the mental health of college students, and providing new ideas for improving the mental health of college students.

Methods: 33 undergraduates with general psychological disorders were randomly divided into intervention group (16 patients) and control group (17 patients). The intervention group received the acceptance of commitment therapy based on the gas volleyball course, and the control group received the regular volleyball teaching. The experiment lasted 8 weeks and 4 lessons per week. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted using the SCL-90.

Results: After intervention, the scores of somatization, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, interpersonal relationships, depression and anxiety, terror, paranoia, and psychotic factors on the SCL-90 scale were significantly decreased (P < 0.05), and the intervention group Interpersonal relationship, depression, anxiety and psychosis improved from slightly to normal, but there was no significant change in the control group (P > 0.05).

Conclusion: The acceptance of commitment therapy based on the gas volleyball course can effectively improve the mental health of college students, maybe can be used as a new model of mental health education in universities.
