Abstract

The nature-nurture issue is one of the most important in psychology, and a developmental contextualist approach is much more likely to yield progress on this issue than the usual approach. Nature-nurture is loaded down with wrong-headed questions, and it is progress to stop asking them. Lerner's epigenetic approach provides at least a treatment, if not a cure, for this tendency. But I am concerned that he does not go far enough. By allowing for causality and limiting his analysis he leaves the door open for problems.
