Objective To investigate the effects of acceptance and commitment therapy on post-traumatic growth and negative emotions in patients undergoing chemotherapy after surgery for breast cancer during the recovery period. Methods A total of 280 patients undergoing chemotherapy after surgery for breast cancer at Shenzhen Sami Medical Center, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Shaanxi Cancer Hospital between March 2019 and February 2020 were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 140 patients in each group. The control group received conventional therapy, while the observation group received acceptance and commitment therapy in addition to the control group. Post-traumatic growth and negative emotions scores were compared between the two groups. Results After three months of intervention, the post-traumatic growth level in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05); the negative emotions scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Acceptance and commitment therapy can effectively improve post-traumatic growth, alleviate negative emotions, and enhance the quality of life of patients undergoing chemotherapy after surgery for breast cancer, and is worthy of clinical promotion.
