Arylbow, R., Liu, J., & Wang, Q. (2019). The impact of acceptance and commitment therapy on cancer recurrence fears in patients with relapses from oral cancer. Journal of Nursing Science, 34 (16).
Objective
To investigate the effect of acceptance commitment therapy in reducing the fear of cancer recurrence in patients with oral cancer recurrence.
Methods
A total of 63 patients with oral cancer recurrence were divided into control group (32 cases) and intervention group (31 cases) according to the length of hospitalization. The control group received routine nursing, and the intervention group constructed and gave the fear of cancer recurrence to patients with oral cancer recurrence on the basis of the control group based on the theory of acceptance commitment therapy.
Results
After intervention, the scores of the Fear Disease Progression Simplified Scale, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire, and Anxiety Self-Rating Scale in the intervention group were significantly lower than those in the control group (all P<0.01).
Conclusions
The application of acceptance-commitment therapy intervention program is beneficial to reduce the fear of cancer recurrence in patients with oral cancer recurrence.
