Free online master course on quitting cigarette smoking using ACT

Dear ACBS members. I am excited to announce that a free online master course using ACT for quitting cigarette smoking is now available. The course is based on over 15 years of grant-funded research from my HABIT lab at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington. Every time our lab does a study, we learn from our prior work, look closely at how to improve our ACT intervention, and so it keeps getting better and better.

You can now see the result of that iterative process. There is powerful empirical support behind this course, and best of all, it is completely free to anyone who wishes to use it: your clients who want to quit smoking, your colleagues, your friends, and family. Anyone. Please share it widely to your circles of influence, on your social media.

This course is now available to thousands of people, through social media, their health insurance plan, and their employee wellness plans. The impact is going to be substantial.

This is an exciting example of how ACT can broadly reach people, positively impact their lives, and improve public health. Cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death. Quitting smoking is the behavior can thus be the most important way for people who smoke to extend their lifespan and improve the quality of their lives.

I spent the past year with mpulse media on the course structure, format, scripting, filming, and post-production editing. It's been well worth the time and effort as it perfectly fits my vision as a researcher: rigorous science in the service of broadly impacting people's health. Reach people who might not otherwise have access to treatment.

Happy to be giving away ACT. May this help people live longer, healthier, and more vital lives.
