Hello all,
We are really thrilled to invite a big name in CBS communities, Thomas G. Szabo PhD, BCBA-D for our SIG monthly meeting on December 4.
The subject is "Fear and Fearing Fear: An ACT Approach to Athletic Performance".
Dr. Szabo will share data from a recent study he did with adolescent and young adult autistic competition climbers and then extrapolate out to the way high-consequence adventure athletes approach fear.
Dr. Thomas G. Szabo (he/they) is a peer-reviewed ACT trainer, board certified behavior analyst, and a behavior analysis professor at McNeese University.
He received his masters and doctorate degrees at University of Nevada, Reno, where he studied under W. Larry Williams and Steven C. Hayes.
Over the last fifteen years, he has focused his practice on teaching people ways to ignite psychological flexibility in their personal lives and with others in clinical practice, schools, board rooms, shop floors, and community centers.
He has developed iterations of ACT for autistic people, their parents and caregivers, siblings, and staff members.
His research focuses on the development of ACT training methods, functional analysis, and treatment that addresses issues related to race, gender, class, ethnicity, neurodiversity, disability, language, and dialect.
With the Commit & Act Foundation, he has trained therapists in Sierra Leone working with individuals who've committed acts of gender-based violence.
He has published empirical and conceptual papers, as well as several book chapters and a full-length practitioner training manual, ACT and Applied Behavior Analysis: A Practical Guide to Ensuring Better Outcomes Using Acceptance and Commitment Training, published by New Harbinger Press.
In my opinion, he can even do whatever he wants by applying both CBS and ABA approaches.
So the meeting will naturally be informative, insightful and enjoyable. Please don't miss the great opportunity.
Manabu Yoshimoto(he/him), DEEP SLOW MOVE RIVER is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
