Hi everyone,
After years of conversations, supervision groups, hallway discussions at trainings, and those “wait… say that again” moments that only happen when we’re really paying attention, I finally decided to put a microphone in front of the work.
I’m excited to share a new project with you: Deeply Functional — a short-form podcast exploring Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functional Contextualism, and Process-Based work in a way that is digestible, useful, and (hopefully) enjoyable.
Each episode is short—usually 5–10 minutes—and focuses on one idea we often talk about in training or supervision but don’t always slow down enough to fully unpack. Topics range from psychological flexibility processes, to experiential exercises, to subtle in-room decisions that make our work more functional and less protocol-driven. My hope is that these episodes feel like a brief companion: a small pause to reflect, reconnect with the philosophy beneath the method, and deepen the why behind what we do.
If you enjoy things that are practical, process-oriented, and rooted firmly in the spirit of ACT, this may be a worthwhile addition to your walking routine, commute, or quiet morning coffee ritual.
If you'd like to listen, follow along, or offer ideas for future topics, and even tell me were I might have missed something, I’d love that. We grow this work together.
Warmly,
Todd Schmenk
