The title of the Odysseus project is ‘Toward a Relational Frame Theory Account of Human Psychopathology within a Functional-Cognitive Framework’ . The Odysseus team was part of the Learning and Implicit Processes Laboratory within the Department of Experimental, Clinical and Health Psychology. The Odysseus research programme consists of five lines of research, four empirical and one conceptual, which run together in a coordinated and largely parallel fashion. At a conceptual level, the main aim of the Odysseus programme is to develop basic research concepts that can address the complexities of psychological suffering in such a way that will have a direct influence on treatment. Indeed, we maintain strong links with clinical communities internationally through the provision of training workshops and supervision in RFT and ACT. We are also building vital links with functionally-oriented clinicians already working in Belgium. These and other collaborations help to ensure that our research is directly informed by clinical experience and practice, and that the concepts we use will translate directly and precisely to explain and alleviate psychological suffering.
