Category

Presenter
Steve Bisgaier, PsyD, BCB, is a licensed psychologist, adjunct professor, professional trainer, and clinical supervisor. He specializes in the treatment of anxiety, OCD, depression, chronic health issues, and substance use. He is Past-President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, the umbrella organization that houses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and is an adjunct professor at Widener University’s Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology. Dr. Bisgaier has led professional trainings on numerous topics, including ACT, the treatment of anxiety, depression, OCD, suicidality, and perfectionism and has developed a mindfulness program for anxiety and a clinical self-compassion program.

This is an introductory-level workshop (3 CE's available) designed to provide clinicians and students with 1) a practical and accessible overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), 2) a simple framework for thinking about and performing our work as therapists, and 3) usable interventions that can help participants in their work the same day. The foundational core competencies of ACT will be introduced with a combination of didactics, practical/experiential exercises, and clinical examples, and will focus on helping participants learn skills and interventions that can be immediately integrated into their work. The training will include a brief review of ACT’s place in the context of other theoretical/clinical orientations as well as an overview of some of the underlying philosophical components of practicing from an ACT framework.
