Focused ACT for Rapid Change with Kirk Strosahl and Patti Robinson

Presenter
Kirk Strosahl, PhD, and Patricia Robinson, PhD

A Streamlined Model for Rapid Change

14 CE hours. 7 weekly sessions. Hands-on learning.

This highly interactive training teaches how to promote rapid behavior change using focused acceptance and commitment therapy (FACT). With a simplified psychological flexibility model and accessible language, FACT offers a clear framework for helping clients become more open to change, try behavior experiments, and connect more deeply with the things that matter to them—even if your time together is limited.

Led by the creators of the FACT model and authors of Brief Interventions for Radical Behavior Change (soon to be in its second edition), this interactive course emphasizes skills-building through active learning. You’ll move from targeted instruction and demonstrations into breakout room practice and will use a course workbook and ready-to-use scripts to apply new skills immediately. You’ll also use a self-assessment tool to reflect on your progress and identify ways to keep improving even after the training is over.

After completing the course, you’ll be equipped to:

  • Work with greater efficiency using a clear structure for sessions that promotes behavioral variability from the very first visit
  • Help more people by offering accessible, brief interventions that reduce barriers to care
  • Increase psychological flexibility across complex presentations—including co-occurring mental health, substance use, family, and medical issues—using a unified framework
  • Use concrete metrics confidently to evaluate service quality and inform clinical decisions in real-time
  • Expand your repertoire as a clinician and rediscover satisfaction in your work by focusing every visit on promoting behavioral variability and meaningful change

This training incorporates all the latest updates in FACT—including concepts from neuroscience research—and emphasizes a practice-based environment that will help you truly apply what you learn. Whether you’re a true beginner or have previous experience with FACT, this course is designed to give you a strong grounding in the model and practical skills that will set you up for mastery.

Weekly sessions are held on Thursdays at 4–6 p.m. Eastern Time, held over Zoom. Participants from all time zones are welcome.

Recordings will be available, but this is designed to be highly interactive so we strongly recommend being there live.
