Burnout in Autistic and ADHD individuals is a unique and pervasive experience, often misunderstood or misdiagnosed, leaving many clients feeling trapped in cycles of exhaustion and overwhelm. This practical, skill-based workshop will equip you with the tools and insights to support your neurodivergent clients in recognising, alleviating, and preventing chronic burnout. Join Jennifer Kemp, an Autistic and ADHD clinical psychologist with lived experience, for a dynamic session that combines professional expertise with personal understanding to help your clients move toward a more compassionate and valued life.

Background to the workshop

Autistic and ADHD burnout is not the same as ordinary exhaustion or stress; it is a profound state of physical, emotional, and mental depletion that cannot be resolved with rest alone. Chronic burnout often occurs in environments that fail to meet neurodivergent needs, where individuals face relentless sensory, social, and emotional demands and feel pressured to mask their true selves to conform to neuronormative expectations. The impact can be devastating, exacerbating health problems, disrupting education and work, and straining relationships. For many, particularly those from the “lost generation” who may not even realise they are neurodivergent, the path to recovery can feel unclear. Therapists and psychologists are uniquely positioned to make a meaningful difference, yet this requires nuanced understanding and practical tools tailored to the neurodivergent experience.

  • Master strategies for using self-compassion to alleviate burnout and support your clients in aligning their lives with their values.
