Process-Based Dialogue that Fuels Flexibility

Socratic questioning is often associated with helping clients evaluate the accuracy or logic of their thoughts.

But from a process-based perspective, the more useful question is not whether a thought is true—it is how responding to that thought functions in the client’s life. When used skillfully, Socratic dialogue can move beyond disputation and become a powerful way to cultivate psychological flexibility.

In Socratic Questioning for ACT, authors of The Stoicism Workbook Scott Waltman and R. Trent Codd III will show you how to use deliberate, ACT-consistent questions to help clients contact experience directly, shift their relationship to difficult internal experiences, and move toward meaningful action.

At the end of this five-week, live online training, you’ll be equipped to:

  • Facilitate flexibility across all six core ACT processes using well-formed questions

  • Shape psychological flexibility in a way that is experiential and collaborative

  • Lead inquiries that illustrate function, choice points, and workable behavior (without simply describing these things)

  • Help clients contact present-moment experience without getting pulled into cognition’s content

  • Bring case-applied language, metaphors, and immediately useful examples into your sessions

Join us starting October 19 and learn a practical framework for using Socratic dialogue in ways that are collaborative, curious, experiential, and fully consistent with ACT.
