Alexander D. Simmons is a Licensed clinical social worker (LMSW-C), licensed in the states of Michigan, Texas, and South Dakota. He is the Co-Chair of Social Work SIG; Co-Chair of the Research in Clinical practice SIG; maintains an independent private practice called, Questions & Exploration Therapy, LLC; volunteers as a research assistant with Eastern Michigan University; and has presented on Self-as-context at the 2025 CBS Global Exchange conference.

Overview: 

This webinar will focus on the ACT process of Self-as-context (SAC) and how to implement this into clinical practice. SAC is the process of ACT where clients are able to observe their psychological struggles without becoming entangled with them. During this webinar, I will discuss ACT, SAC, the subcomponents of SAC, exercises/metaphors that can be used in interactions with clients to facilitate SAC, and different ways to measure SAC.
  Learning outcomes:

1. Gain more understanding of Self-as-context

2. Learn ways to explain SAC to clients in layman's terms

3. Learn SAC exercises to practice with clients

4. Learn ways to measure SAC, especially for those who practice Measurement Base Care with clients
