ACT/CBS Background and Training: I am a UK based Clinical and Health Psychologist, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC; Reg. Num: #PYL043565). I am also a Chartered Psychologist (C.Psychol) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
I specialize in emotional-related problems, such as anxiety, low mood, and stress, as well as the management of chronic physical conditions, such as chronic pain, headache, and others, using, evidence-based modalities like Cognitive-Behavioral & Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapies.
My area of expertise includes young adults, adults, and couples with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
For the past eight years I have been working exclusively with individuals with chronic physical illnesses, such as chronic pain, headaches, rheumatisms, and other chronic conditions helping them navigate the complex challenges and threats of chronic and acute illnesses. I have also been working with couples and caregivers/spouses, supporting them in moments of distress or ongoing conflicts.
My journey began with a bachelor in Psychology from the University of Crete, Greece, and then a Master in Clinical Psychology, from Swansea University in Wales, UK. I continued with a specialization and earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cyprus (EU), focusing on applications of acceptance and mindfulness practices to chronic pain.
I then completed post-doctoral research at University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland before moving to the UK where I worked for several years as a Research Associate at Cardiff University, School of Psychology and Oxford University, the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) which I am still affiliated with.
Along with my clinical work, I hold a Lecturer position in Clinical Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London where I primarily work as a Research Tutor at the Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (D.Clin.Psy) program I also maintain a Research Associate position at Oxford University, the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatisms & Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS).
I currently serve on the Board of Directors for several international scientific organizations including a Treausure role for the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) Greece & Cyprus Chapter and a Secretary at the ACBS Foundation. I also currently serve on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science (JCBS) and the British Journal of Health Psychology (BHJP).

His primary interests include: (a) the development of innovative and pragmatic psychotherapeutic interventions aimed at improving mental health and functioning of individuals with various mental health problems, and (b) the implementation of empirically supported preventive and intervention programs with a particular focus on contextual and behavioural therapies (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) for a wide range of disorders and health problems, such as smoking, addiction, chronic pain, etc.

Dr. Vasiliou had conducted several research projects investigating the effectiveness of new psychological interventions in the area of mental health and chronic illness. He is also interested in examining the psychological mechanism of actions in effective behavioral treatments and investigating contextual factors underpinning adaptation and well-being to turmoil and ever-lasting conditions. He has participated in a number of local, European, and International conferences with more than 50 symposia/panel discussions presentations, and has published in scientific journals, policy editions, and instructional materials. Finally, he is currently a president-elect at the local Greece-Cyprus chapter of the Association for Contextual and Behavioral Science (ACBS). He is actively involved in several initiatives (e.g., “Algea project; http://ucyweb.ucy.ac.cy/algea/el/#) with the aim to improve the psychological wellbeing of those who are in need and alleviate human suffering.
