ACT/CBS Background and Training: I was first introduced to ACT in 2017 while working full-time as a Behavioural Health Consultant and completing formal training in the Primary Care Behavioural Health (PCBH) model of care. ACT's more pragmatic approach to therapy intrigued me, as did Relational Frame Theory. Although I have since enhanced my knowledge of ACT via graduate studies and professional development activities, I also largely benefited from mentorship and supervision to facilitate uptake of ACT in clinical practice. Experiential avoidance is quite common when people are facing catastrophic losses and health conditions and my patients have taught me so much about how to apply ACT in practice! I maintain a small library of books and videos on ACT that I consult periodically, especially when a clinical case challenges me. Joining ACBS is an important next step in my development as I prepare to write a certification exam in psychotherapy.
