ACT/CBS Background and Training: I’m Rafael Cazares, LMFT, a Latino, first-generation therapist and son of immigrants providing bilingual (English/Spanish) telehealth across California. As a Latino clinician, bringing lived experience and representation into the CBS community is central to how I practice. My foundation in ACT started with reading core texts and progressed through Russ Harris's Psychwire training, an intensive ACT Bootcamp hosted by Steven Hayes, Robyn Walser, Miranda Morris, and Diana Hill, and clinical group supervision through Contextual Consulting. I remain active in the ACBS community through peer consultation groups and SIGs.
In session, I use ACT as a process-based framework focused on helping clients notice how language, internal narratives, and unspoken cultural rules keep them stuck. We work on building psychological flexibility so they can unhook from rigid patterns and move toward what actually matters to them.
While my own background deeply informs my perspective, I provide culturally sensitive care to adults of all backgrounds navigating varying forms of anxiety, relational trauma, generational pressure, gender role issues, and major life transitions, with an emphasis on men's and paternal mental health. I also integrate components of self-compassion, attachment work, EMDR, and present-moment body awareness. I always welcome peer connections, clinical discussions, and client referrals across California for bilingual evening telehealth care.
