ACT/CBS Background and Training: Dr. Joseph Bardeen is a licensed clinical psychologist that specializes in working with clients who are dealing with anxiety, OCD, and trauma-related concerns. Dr. Bardeen approaches client problems from a cognitive-behavioral perspective, with special expertise in the use of exposure-based treatments, while also leaving room for the flexibility to integrate treatment techniques from other modalities when necessary. He specializes in treating clients with panic attacks/panic disorder, agoraphobia, health/illness anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety and worry, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Bardeen also frequently works with Veterans who have anxiety and trauma-related concerns. He is licensed in Iowa, Alabama, and Florida.

Dr. Bardeen earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Northern Illinois University and completed an American Psychological Association-accredited clinical psychology internship at the Mississippi Consortium Psychology Residency. While on internship, he completed rotations in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Bardeen is currently a graduate faculty scholar at Northern Illinois University and was a tenured associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Auburn University up until 2022 where he trained graduate-level clinicians in empirically supported assessment methods and in a variety of treatment techniques, including advanced exposure techniques, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness and acceptance-based techniques. Dr. Bardeen was also the director of the Trauma and Anxiety Research Laboratory at Auburn University, where graduate students in clinical psychology conducted cutting-edge research to better understand how anxiety- and fear-related disorders develop and how they can be treated. Dr. Bardeen has 90+ scientific publications to his credit and his research has received funding by the National Institute of Mental Health.
