ACT/CBS Background and Training: I was introduced to ACT while earning my master's degree at SUNY at Buffalo. I am trained in EMDR and specialize in complex trauma, and wanted to become familiar with a model that I could employ in addition to EMDR that was more dynamic and broadly effective than traditional CBT or some of the other approaches I had studied. ACT appeared to be such a model, based on what I had learned from research, experiences with clients, and in relation to common factors I had seen to be most effective in the practice of psychotherapy. I participate in ongoing training, and have read several excellent books on ACT.
