Todd Schmenk's Training Page

Welcome to My ACT Training Resource Page

This page serves as an entry point for clinicians interested in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) training, consultation, and supervision from a Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer perspective.

Below you will find a brief professional bio, selected training resources, and links to ongoing learning materials. Over time, this page will continue to expand to include additional workshops, webinars, interviews, worksheets, and consultation opportunities for clinicians interested in developing functional fluency in ACT or pursuing peer-reviewed training pathways.

Bio

Todd Schmenk, LMHC is a licensed mental health clinician, a Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer, and the director of the RIACT Residency Program, where he works with interns and newly graduated clinicians to develop proficiency in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). He works primarily with clinicians seeking to move beyond protocol-driven ACT toward flexible, contextual, and experiential practice.

Todd’s work is grounded in Functional Contextualism and informed by Relational Frame Theory (RFT). His training emphasizes ACT as a stance rather than a set of techniques, with attention to workability, process-based case formulation, and the therapist’s moment-to-moment impact in session.

He provides individual and group consultation, supervision, and training for clinicians at varying stages of ACT development, including those preparing for ACT peer review.

Training Focus Areas

  • ACT foundations and philosophical stance

  • Functional, process-based case conceptualization

  • Experiential and relational ACT interventions

  • Therapist presence and in-session flexibility

  • ACT-informed supervision and consultation

  • Preparation and support for Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer pathways

ACT in Action: Essentials for Implementation

This manual is one of the core training texts used in the RIACT Residency Program in Providence, Rhode Island. It serves as a practical, functional guide for clinicians learning to implement ACT in real-world clinical settings.

The manual integrates:

  • Functional Contextualism and Relational Frame Theory foundations

  • The six ACT core processes, taught experientially

  • Process-based assessments and documentation

  • Clinical stance, supervision principles, and therapist development

This resource is designed to support clinicians in moving from knowing ACT to doing ACT in context, with an emphasis on workability, flexibility, and values-aligned practice.
