Dr Connie Chong, an Assistant Professor at the Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is a registered nurse with clinical expertise in medicine and paediatrics. Her research program centres on contextual behavioural science (CBS), with a particular focus on applying and evaluating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for family caregivers of children with special needs and chronic conditions. Dr Chong's contributions have earned her prestigious international roles, including being the first Asian Chair of the Awards Committee, the first Asian member of the Strategic Science Council of the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science, and the first Asian Editorial Board member of the Journal of Contextual Behavioural Science. Her ongoing research explores the integration of machine learning and natural language processing in CBS-related psychotherapies, contributing to enhanced mental health support for caregivers globally.
This pioneering initiative (www.actuwise.org) is led by Dr Yuen Yu Chong, Connie, Assistant Professor at the Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. As the first of its kind in Hong Kong, ACTuwise stands at the forefront of promoting and advancing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the community. ACTuwise plays a pivotal role in various functions:
- Enhancing the implementation of top-notch contextual behavioral science (CBS) evidence in practical applications locally and internationally.
- Offering training and advisory services in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to enhance clinical efficacy and results.
- Aiding institutions and policy creators in making well-informed choices within mental healthcare by relying on evidence-based approaches.
- Spearheading collaborative efforts on a regional and global scale to extend the influence and impact of CBS evidence on healthcare and social practices across diverse fields and contexts.
Dr. Chong and her research team have been dedicated to close collaboration with different hospitals and non-governmental organizations in recent years, actively promoting Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to various groups in Hong Kong. Her research laboratory is currently accepting applications from MPhil and PhD students who possess a keen interest in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) within the realm of caregiving.
