"Beyond Outcomes: The Science and Practice of Process"

Australian National University, Canberra, Australia

Conference website

Two days of pre-conference workshops with Kelly Wilson, Emily Sandoz, Eric Morris, Bruce Arroll, Louise Hayes and Joseph Ciarrochi

The 2019 ANZACBS conference theme of “Beyond outcomes: The science and practice of process” has been selected with the intention of bringing together researchers and practitioners from all helping disciplines and therapeutic orientations to learn from each other and our shared efforts to alleviate human suffering.

Our theme of ‘process’ reflects our focus on:

  • the traditional processes of change highlighted in the ACT model (present moment awareness, acceptance, cognitive defusion, self as context, values and committed action);
  • evidence-based processes such as self-compassion, exposure and practitioner self-reflection; and
  • processes linked to underlying theories of functional contextualism, relational frame theory (e.g. the use of language as an intervention) and applied behavioural analysis.
