ACTuWISE Limited (www.actuwise.org) is a pioneering spin-off from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) led by Dr. Yuen Yu Chong, Connie, Associate Professor at the Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK. As the first initiative of its kind in Hong Kong, ACTuWISE integrates artificial intelligence and innovative technologies with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to deliver personalized mental health solutions. Its mission is to empower individuals to "embrace, transform, and thrive," enhancing psychological resilience and quality of life.

ACTuWISE serves a critical role in advancing mental health care by:

  • Facilitating the application of high-quality Contextual Behavioral Science (CBS) evidence to practical, real-world contexts both locally and globally.
  • Providing comprehensive training and advisory services in ACT to enhance clinical efficacy and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Supporting institutions and policymakers in making evidence-based decisions to improve mental health care delivery.
  • Leading collaborative regional and international initiatives to amplify the impact of CBS evidence across diverse healthcare and social domains.

While ACTuWISE serves as an exemplary spin-off advancing mental health care, Dr. Chong’s affiliated research laboratory, based at CUHK, remains focused on academic research and training. The laboratory actively collaborates with hospitals and NGOs to promote ACT and facilitates the application of high-quality Contextual Behavioral Science (CBS) evidence to practical, real-world contexts. It also provides comprehensive training in ACT to improve clinical outcomes and supports evidence-based policymaking.

The research lab is currently inviting applications for MPhil and PhD programs from candidates with a strong interest in ACT, particularly in caregiving. Prospective students are welcome to contribute to its ongoing research initiatives. Applications and inquiries can be directed to Dr. Chong at [email protected].
