Steven es Profesor de la Fundación Nevada en el Departamento de Psicología de la Universidad de Nevada. Es autor de más de 35 libros y más de 500 artículos científicos, su carrera se ha centrado en el análisis de la naturaleza del lenguaje humano y la cognición y su aplicación a la comprensión y el alivio del sufrimiento humano.

Steven ha sido Presidente de la División 25 de la APA, de la Asociación Americana de Psicología Aplicada y Preventiva, de la Asociación de Ciencias Contextuales del Comportamiento y de la Asociación de Terapias Cognitivas y Conductuales. Steven C. Mantiene un laboratorio activo centrado en la pragmática del lenguaje y las relaciones semánticas. Su reciente investigación aplicada se ha centrado en el análisis de los métodos de aceptación emocional en la psicoterapia, donde actualmente cuenta con donación para evaluar su impacto en los toxicómanos.

También es conocido por su trabajo metodológico en diseños experimentales de caso único y ha escrito extensamente sobre el contextualismo como sistema filosófico.
